> Democrats are so dumb they think it´s cool to have a jackass for their party symbol. The association goes back to the election of 1828. Andrew Jackson´s opponents started calling him Jackass Jackson as a term of derision. The story is the old general took a shine to the name and started printing up posters with a picture of a jackass next to his name. Over the years the symbol just sort of stuck. Sometime in the 1870s humorist Thomas Nast created a cartoon for Harper´s Weekly that portrayed the Democratic jackass and the newly created Republican elephant. Ever since then they´ve been the party mascots. Pretty appropriate if you think about it, one is an ass, and the other one drops a really big load. Politics 101. All it takes is an ass and a really big load of shit. Put the two together and you´ve got a politician. This book is a snarky, somewhat twisted look at politics. Along the way, you´ll meet Obama, Clinton, and Biden. Even though it´s a book about democrats we´re going to do a little Bush bashing - father and son. If you dislike Democrats this may be the book for you. If you dislike politics in general, this may be the book for you. I´m a political agnostic. I´ve got no love for Democrats, Republicans, or the Tea Party. And, yes, that irreverence shows throughout the book. If you´re fed up with politics, politicians, and all of their BS - Read this book, and register a vote for sanity. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Dave Wright. Just for a day, Colorado cop David Wolf trades slogging through murky meltwaters and even murkier small-town politics for an overnight camping trip in the wilderness with his son. But when a man with fresh burns turns up on their trail, falling from the heavy load in his backpack and running wild from something, Wolf suspects his father-son camping trip may have just taken a turn for the worse. Unfortunately his instincts are spot on, and Wolf is forced into action with the last person he wants by his side in a deadly battle - his only son. When news of their harrowing escape from certain death travels through the valleys, local FBI agents want to take over Wolf´s investigation, hoping to halt murder and corruption originating 7000 miles away in Afghanistan. Wolf ignores the FBI´s order to stand down, even if the case involves a matter of national security. Not when his son´s safety is at stake. In this stomach-dropping third installment of the David Wolf series, Wolf partners with a beautiful FBI agent to bust an inter-continental conspiracy threatening anyone who has the bad enough luck to stumble on it. Alive and Killing is an action-packed mystery-thriller that will grab and pin you down until the very end. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Sean Patrick Hopkins. One snarky heroine and her band of misfits up against, well, pretty much everyone else. Indy Jackson is a stubborn space pirate with two goals in life: keep her father´s underground operation alive and hunt down his murderer. When Indy is framed for an alien massacre, she is forced to go on the run to clear her name and attempt something dozens of professionals before her have failed to achieve: find Constellation, the Sector´s fabled battlecruiser. Missing in action, and believed to be destroyed in the last Great War, Constellation is the only warship capable of defending the Sector against its mightiest enemy, the Blood Empire. But the Sector is crumbling and on the brink of civil war. If Indy sides with the wrong faction, then no one will survive the Blood Empire´s onslaught. Especially not Indy, her brother, and her ragtag crew. Will Indy make the right choice and successfully play the Sector´s fragile politics...or will the Galaxy fall into disarray, bringing death and destruction to all? Constellation is the first book in a fast-paced space opera saga. If you like intense stand-offs, unexpected twists, and planet-loads of hidden agendas, then you´ll love Robert Scanlon´s Blood Empire series. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Hillary Huber. ´´He loads his head full of coal and diamonds shoot out of his finger tips. What a trick. The mole genius has left us with another digest. It´s a full house - read ´em and weep.´´ - Tom Waits After toiling in obscurity for years, Charles Bukowski suddenly found fame in 1967 with his autobiographical newspaper column, ´´Notes of a Dirty Old Man´´, and a book of that name in 1969. He continued writing this column, in one form or another, through the mid-1980s. More Notes of a Dirty Old Man gathers many uncollected gems from the column´s 20-year run. Filled with his usual obsessions - sex, booze, gambling - More features Bukowski´s offbeat insights into politics and literature, his tortured, violent relationships with women, and his lurid escapades on the poetry reading circuit. Highlighting his versatility, the book ranges from thinly-veiled autobiography to purely fictional tales of dysfunctional suburbanites, disgraced politicians, and down-and-out sports promoters - climaxing with a long, hilarious adventure among French filmmakers, to ´´My Friend the Gambler´´, based on his experiences making the movie Barfly. From his lowly days at the post office through his later literary fame, More follows the entire arc of Bukowski´s colorful career. OBIE winner Will Patton (Remember the Titans, The Good Wife, Armageddon) recreates Bukowski in his visceral prime, along with every eye-popping character in his life, each adversary, lover, and stranger in a lost city. More about the author: Charles Bukowski is one of America´s best-known contemporary writers of poetry and prose, and, many would claim, its most influential and imitated poet. He was born in Andernach, Germany and raised in Los Angeles, where he lived for 50 years. He published his first story in 1944, when he was 24, and began writing poetry at the age of 35. He died in San Pedro, California, on March 9, 1... 1. Language: English. Narrator: Will Patton. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/adbl/026739/bk_adbl_026739_sample.mp3. ´´He loads his head full of coal and diamonds shoot out of his finger tips. What a trick. The mole genius has left us with another digest. It´s a full house - read ´em and weep.´´ - Tom Waits Born from Bukowski´s columns, the LA underground press of the 1960s, Bukowski defined his early alter ego, Hank Chinaski, as a self-described dirty old man who eyes his defeatist attitude about himself with his clarity to see humor and holiness in others. Addictive and instructive listening, Bukowski delivers the humanity and intelligence of all the unseen. Filled with his usual obsessions - sex, booze, gambling - Notes features Bukowski´s offbeat insights into politics and literature, and his tortured, violent relationships. ´´People come to my door - too many of them really - and knock to tell me Notes of a Dirty Old Man turns them on. A bum off the road brings in a gypsy and his wife and we talk...drink half the night. A long distance operator from Newburgh, N.Y. sends me money. She wants me to give up drinking beer and to eat well. I hear from a madman who calls himself ´King Arthur´ and lives on Vine Street in Hollywood and wants to help me write my column. A doctor comes to my door: ´I read your column and think I can help you. I used to be a psychiatrist.´ I send him away....´´ ´´Bukowski writes like a latter-day Celine, a wise fool talking straight from the gut about the futility and beauty of life....´´ (Publishers Weekly) OBIE winner Will Patton (Remember the Titans, The Good Wife, Armageddon) recreates Bukowski in his visceral prime, along with every eye-popping character in his life, each adversary, lover, and stranger in a lost city.
